Food Pollution: It’s a Thing!

By: Dr. Renae Norton

Americans today are experiencing a downward spiral, in terms of health and emotional well-being, I believe this is a direct result of what I am calling Food Pollution. I see the effects every day in practice.

My patients present today with conditions that are increasingly more debilitating and often life-threatening. Their problems, which typically go undiagnosed by their physicians, are difficult to understand. Most of the treatment they receive is symptom-focused rather than focused on the cause. Indeed the cause is almost always “Below the Radar”, which, not coincidentally, is the title of my soon to be released latest book.

Writing this book has changed me, in a good way, I think. It has enabled me to confront issues head-on about the safety, or lack of safety, when it comes to U.S. foods. These views are not very popular. But, it took me so long to write the book that they’re not quite as unpopular today as they were when I started writing, However it is still an uphill climb.

On a personal level, what I learned while writing the book empowered me to take back control of my health, and to insist that my doctors work with me to address the causes instead of the symptoms of the problems I was facing personally. This has freed me to lead by example and to use my personal and professional successes to inspire others without having to apologize for being a radical.

The most important thing this information has enabled me to do is successfully treat the food-related illnesses and obesity that are epidemic in the U.S. today. These issues go untreated and/or unresolved using conventional approaches and people are really suffering as a result.

“Food Pollution”, or the polluting of the American food supply has had a devastating impact on Americans. It took me years to convince myself of this fact. I couldn’t wrap my head around what I was seeing. Why would anyone knowingly create crops and foods that are dangerous? I’m still not sure I have the answer to that question, other than greed, but I do know for sure that that is what is happening. I also know that we have to fight back, if not for ourselves, at least for our children.

They have been hardest hit and will live shorter lives than their parents, a first in the history of our country, and a rare circumstance in the history of the world. Many of them will die shortly after being born, as we also have one of the worst infant survival rates in the world.

Depressing, right? No wonder I was in denial. Ignorance is bliss. Or is it? Actually, ignorance just sets us up to be exploited and to pay a huge price. In this case, we forfeit our health and well-being, and we experience an acceleration of the aging process.

But have heart, because the solution is fairly simple; insist on foods that are safe and put those who would profit by poisoning you out of business by refusing to spend your money on their polluted products. No matter what the food/product is, there is always a healthy version of it, so why eat the polluted version?

My goal in writing about these issues is to ensure you have all the information you need to protect your health, to be a healthy weight for you, and to reverse the conditions that may be causing you to age prematurely. I can show you how to find and enjoy some of the most delicious food on earth.

My recommendation, and what I have done to knock 15 years off my age, is to eat all organic, grass-fed, wild-caught, locally sourced, minimally processed foods. This is only the beginning of the conversation about Food Pollution and its impact on our health. In the next article of this series, I’ll dive deeper into where these toxins are hiding in our food supply — and how they contribute to serious conditions like leaky gut and eating disorders. Once we understand the connection between what we eat and how we feel, we can begin to heal from the inside out. Stay tuned — your health, and your future, are worth protecting.
